City of Bayswater Skate Park update

Skateboard, scooter and BMX fans are riding high after the official opening of the City of Bayswater Skate Park on Saturday 10 December. Riders of all ages and abilities had a blast testing their skills on all new elements, including WA's biggest vert ramp.

Mayor Filomena Piffaretti and Minister for Transport Rita Saffioti MLA cut the ribbon to open the $2.5-million facility before 8-year-old skating prodigy Mia Kretzer dropped in to skate the 4-metre vert ramp.

The new facility has riders excited across Perth, with a range of elements for beginners through to more experienced riders. Keys features include a 4m Vert Ramp and large bowl. The junior plaza includes a 3-foot mini ramp has been designed for younger skaters to get started on, before progressing to larger elements within the park. For our BMX riders, we have added intermediate jumps alongside advanced BMX jumps and a return loop for continuous riding.

Project background

The skate park and BMX dirt jumps at Wotton Reserve are being relocated to make way for the future Morley train station car park.

The City engaged with the local community and stakeholders to choose the most suitable location for the new skate park. In August 2021, Council endorsed Concept 4, as the final design to be developed to replace the skate and BMX facilities within Wotton Reserve.

Further background information on this project can be found in the document library.

Skate and BMX detailed designs

In March, The City and MG Group finalised the as-construct designs which considered fixed points such as the existing soccer fields, drainage basin, the future train station access road and optimal skate and ride surface heights in conjunction with site drainage and connecting pathways through the site.

The illustrations provide an overview of the main aspects of the Skate and BMX Facility and highlights the Skate Park elements shown in a 3D model.

The detailed concept design and skate park renders can be viewed in the document library on this page.
