The City of Bayswater has been working with the Department of Transport to establish a bike boulevard between Bayswater and the Morley town centre. The project is part of the pilot Safe Active Streets Program being implemented across Perth.
Bike boulevards are routes on quiet local streets, where speeds have been reduced to 30 km/h to allow people in cars and on bikes to share the street safely. With lower traffic speeds, streets are also much safer for pedestrians and children and additional tree planting and landscaping make them more attractive places to walk and ride.
Bike boulevards are designed to create safe and comfortable riding environments for bike riders with all levels of experience. People on bikes can ride closer to the middle of the street, with cars passing only if there is enough space to do so safely.
Project background
Following engagement with local residents and other stakeholders, Stage 1 of the bike boulevard - Leake Street and May Street - was officially opened in September 2017 and runs from the river across the railway line to Adelphi Street.

to form a trial reference group to provide input into the development of
opportunities to increase cycle-ability and walk-ability in the West Ward of
the City.
The group's
first priority will be to meet with the Department of Transport and provide
recommendations to Council for the progression and completion of the bike
boulevard to Morley, including the most appropriate form and route. You can

Following this a report was provided to the Committee at the Community, Technical, Finance and Corporate Services Committee meeting on 17 April where Council resolved 'To not approve Stage 2 of the Bike Boulevard'.
