The Platform (2019-2023) was the City's first Youth Action Plan. Through the process of developing The Platform the City consulted with young people aged 12-25 years and identified three key themes being Education and Employment, Health and Wellbeing, and Community Connection.
The Platform worked to address those themes and amplified the voices of young people in the City of Bayswater by introducing youth-focused events, initiatives and programs that aligned with what was heard.
To develop the framework and direction for the next five years we are seeking input from our young people who live, work and study in the City and their parents/caregivers - to understand what is important to them and for them. We will also be engaging with a range of internal and external stakeholders, and with local schools.
Engagement
From 10 November 2023 until 29 February 2024 City staff worked with alongside members of the City of Bayswater Youth Advisory Council to undertake community engagement. We collected feedback via an online survey, school engagement workshops, and at pop-up engagement activities at community events: Maylands Street Festival, PrideFEST Fairday, RISE-Up Art Market and The Big Gay Quiz.
The City has analysed the feedback received from 721 young people and 38 parents/caregivers during consultation. The outcomes report is now available and includes a breakdown of the data.
What's Next
The City is currently developing a draft plan, which uses information gathered during consultation to provide a framework and direction for the next five years. This plan will align with all City plans and strategies in the Community Development space and will be incorporated into an overarching social strategy in 2025.
