Consultation has concluded

Background

The City of Bayswater is trialing a mobile Surveillance Camera Trailer in our City. Surveillance Trailers are currently in use by some local governments, to complement existing CCTV networks and coordinate a responsive approach to regional safety, in conjunction with WA Police.

As part of this trial, we want to compare the effectiveness of this safety initiative, by measuring:

  • How safe you feel ordinarily; and
  • If this changes as a result of the Surveillance Trailer.

We are asking local residents and businesses to share your on-the-ground knowledge and local expertise to help us build a safer community.

Have your say

We invited residents by letter to take part in survey #1 first, then follow-up with survey #2 for comparison. The trial period has now closed. The results shall be taken into consideration in the City's ongoing efforts and commitment to improving safety.

The results did not give a clear indication that residents felt the camera trailer improved anti-social behaviour or suspicious activity during the trial period:

We also learned that most respondents would like to see more 1) CCTV coverage, 2) ranger patrols and 3) lighting to improve safety:

Please also look out for your chance to get involved in the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan 2023-2027. We will be advertising the chance to get involved in the coming months.
