Project update 28 October 2025

As at 28 October, 32 Hillcrest families have taken part in the Safe Routes to Hillcrest Primary School consultation. This is a great start, but we'd love to hear from more of the Hillcrest community. As the people who know the local area best, your input is key to achieving good outcomes.

There's still plenty of time to get involved!

The Safe Routes to Hillcrest Primary School consultation is open! 23 October 2025

Between Thursday 23 October and Thursday 13 November 2025, the City of Bayswater is asking for input from Hillcrest Primary School staff and students to identify safe routes to school and understanding what improvements are needed to encourage more people to cycle, walk or scoot to school more often.

Tell us how we can improve the pedestrian and cycling environment around Hillcrest Primary School through a very short survey, and an interactive map of the local area

Project background

The Safe Routes to School project aims to improve safety for our most vulnerable road users and increase walking, cycling and scooting to school as it is well-recognised that this helps keep our kids healthy and happy.

How to get involved

In person

  • Hillcrest Primary School Bike Month event @ 7.45am on Friday 24 October 2025 - come chat to City of Bayswater staff

Hard copy surveys

  • Available at the Bike Month event on 24 October 2025
  • Available from Hillcrest Primary School.

Online

  1. Use the interactive Hazards and Infrastructure Map to pinpoint hazards and/or make suggestions
  2. Complete the short survey to let us know your safety concerns

Examples of feedback we're looking for include, but are not limited to:

  • the route you take to school
  • uneven paths/ ramps
  • over-hanging trees
  • unclear/ missing signage
  • narrow or crowded paths
  • traffic volume
  • crossing points

Project delivery

We are currently in the consultation stage of this project, and the information you provide will help us prioritise the work required over the coming years, to make the network safer and encourage more people to ride or walk to school more often.

At this time no funding has been allocated for its delivery. Please note that the implementation of the required works may need to be done in stages, the timing and scope of which will depend on project priorities, the availability of budget or external funding, and the necessary approvals from relevant government agencies.
