Why did we review the Retaining Walls Local Planning Policy?

The City of Bayswater's local planning policies are intended to guide development in the City and as such, it's important that we review them periodically to make sure meet current need.

The Retaining Wall Local Planning policy was last updated in 2018. Since then, R-Codes have been amended twice and this review also highlighted a lack of provision for retaining walls within non-residential zones.

What is the purpose of the Retaining Walls Local Planning Policy?

The existing Retaining Walls Local Planning policy provides standards for considering retaining walls when a proposed retaining wall does not meet the requirements of the R-Codes.

The purpose of proposed Retaining Walls Local Planning policy is to provide standards for considering retaining walls and associated site works within residential and non-residential zones in the City.

The additional policy objectives will provide greater clarity for development applicants in terms of how applications are assessed and also make sure that development outcomes are in keeping with the local environment.
