Naming of ROW Between Crawford Road, Stuart, York and Railway Parade, Maylands

The City is seeking input from the community on the proposed naming of the right-of-way (ROW) bordered by Crawford Road, Stuart Street, York Street and Railway Parade, Maylands.

Background

In October 2022, the City received a request from a resident located along the ROW asking that the City investigate formally naming the currently unnamed ROW. The City presented the names 'Ginger Lane' and 'Kuser Lane' to Council at its 31 January 2023 Ordinary Council Meeting, where Council endorsed both names for public comment. Submissions closed on 14 April 2023. A total of 33 submissions were received, 15 of the submissions supported one of or both of the names. The remaining 18 submissions provided comments and did not support either of the names.

At the 23 May 2023 Ordinary Council Meeting, Council resolved to defer consideration on the laneway naming until the City undertook a community engagement process where the public was invited to submit name options for future naming of parks, reserves, streets, rights of way, infrastructure and the like across the City to create a City of Bayswater Naming Register.

Council endorsed the Naming Register at the 27 February 2024 Ordinary Council Meeting. At the same meeting Council resolved to progress the naming of the laneway by way of advertising of the names 'Cumper Lane' in commemoration of Fay Cumper and 'Karrak Lane', the Noongah name for the Red-Tailed Black-Cockatoo.
