FAQs
Why does the City want to name the ROW?
The ROW has a number of property's whose primary access is via the ROW, and the proposed naming will help ensure that they can direct people more easily to access their property.
Does this mean the ROW will now become a public road?
No, naming the ROW does not make it a dedicated road. The ROW will continue to remain in private ownership and landowners will not be able to change their address to the ROW.
Where did the names 'Cumper Lane' and 'Karrak Lane' come from?
'Cumper Lane' is in commemoration of Fay Cumper, an active member of the community and a resident of the Maylands area. 'Karrak Lane' is the Noongah word for the Red-Tailed Black Cockatoo.
Will the naming of the ROW affect my current street name?
No, if you are located along Crawford Street, Stuart Street and York Street and Railway Parade, Maylands, your address will not be affected by the naming of this ROW.
I don't live near the ROW, can I still vote on a name?
Yes, all residents regardless of where they live in the City of Bayswater are encouraged to complete the survey.
Last time this proposal was advertised, the proposed naming did not include the portion of ROW bordered by Crawford Road, Stuart Street, Alma Street and Railway Parade. Why has it been included this time?
The City consulted with Landgate regarding the proposed naming, and it is their preference that the above portion of the ROW be included in the proposed naming.
Why are you not naming the full ROW up to Beresford Lane, Maylands?
The block bordered by Crawford Road, Stuart Street, York Street and Beresford Lane, Maylands, is under the City of Stirling management. When contacted by the City of Bayswater, the City of Stirling advised that, due to that portion of the ROW not being listed on the City’s ROW Upgrade Program, there are no plans for it to be upgraded or named. Therefore, it is requested that this portion of the ROW be excluded from the naming request.
