Sandpit + water play + teepee
• Sandpit – offering lots of creative and sensory play experiences for children. The addition of a grinding stone allows children to use natural loose materials such as leaves and nuts, to create special mixes and potions.
• Journey pathways – the sandpit is bordered with limestone blocks, logs and boulders to invite children to explore and in turn, develop their balance and coordination.
• Water play – using a standard drink fountain set within a concrete ‘creek bed’ that guides the water run-off into the sandpit.
• Seating – the design includes a variety of informal seating and perching places for children, young people and adults; and spaces for people of all ages to choose from to be alone or together with friends.
• Teepee – the teepee is enveloped by dense planting to create a cosy social space for children; and invites dramatic role play games.
• Landscaping – trees and soft landscaping helps to soften the space, provides protection from the elements and habitat for native birds; and also provides children with an ongoing supply of natural loose parts for play.
