Consultation has concluded

Pat O'Hara Reserve is located on the northern edge of the Morley town centre, adjacent to the Morley Sport and Recreation Centre and opposite the Galleria Shopping Centre. There are limited play opportunities in this area for local residents to walk to, so this play space is of particular importance, to surrounding residents and people using the reserve and Morley Sport and Recreation Centre for sport and other activities. Pat O'Hara Reserve is classified as a District level reserve, currently used for sporting activities (rugby, touch football and Gaelic football), with a play space located at the eastern end of the field, as shown in the image below.

The City has developed a Parks and Play Space Classification Hierarchy to inform and guide play space redevelopments. This can be found in the Document Library to the right of the page.

Redevelopment of the play space

The play equipment is due for replacement and we are taking the opportunity to redevelop the play space. We have taken into consideration how the community uses the space and their ideas for improvement. This includes play elements and other types of park infrastructure.

The budget for this project is $90,000.

Engagement update

All of the information collected from the community engagement process has assisted the City to develop a final concept design that is inclusive. The City will maintain the existing playground pit, whilst activating areas the shaded areas under the existing trees with imaginative nature play. A sports play area with a multi-purpose court will also be introduced roughly in the location of the previous cricket practice nets.

The concept design provides:

Equipment to be suitable for children aged between 0 - 17 years

  • Features accessible play elements
  • Allows children to develop climbing and balancing skills
  • Separate play areas for teenagers / smaller children
  • A multi-court that allows for mixed sport

What's next?

The final design has been developed and is available to view in the Photo Gallery to the right of the page.

The children's play equipment and multi-court is open for community use. Shade sails over the children's play equipment is expected to be installed in May.
