Consultation has concluded

Background

The City has asked our community for ideas to help us bring the public space in front of The RISE, at the corner of Guildford Road and Eighth Avenue in Maylands, to life.

This photos to the right shows the space we are talking about - the grassed area and amphitheatre between the entry to The RISE and Maylands Library, and the back of the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra and the Maylands Historical and Peninsula Association.

We are looking for ways to liven up the area and encourage the community to make the most of this outdoor space, and have a project budget of approximately $35,000 from the City's Local Economic and Social Stimulus Project.

Community Engagement

In April, the City and Town Team Movement held the first stage of community consultation with an on-site engagement event, where people were asked to consider what might improve the use and appeal of the site. A number of examples were presented during the session, including a small WA Youth Jazz Orchestra performance and a multi-function performance/exhibition space. This was followed by online and hard copy surveys, an 'on-site' stakeholder meeting with Maylands Library, Recreation at The RISE, and WAYJO (WA Youth Jazz Orchestra), and further one-to-one meetings with 'on site' stakeholders including Maylands Historical and Peninsula Association and WAYJO .

All engagement findings have been collated by Town Team Movement into an Outcomes Report and a Recommendations Map.

What's next

Implementation of key recommendations is expected to commence in late June/early July.

The multi-function performance/exhibition space was considered by Council as part of a Development Application at its Ordinary Council meeting on June 29, and was approved.
