The City of Bayswater will work towards introducing a Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) waste system this year. Under the FOGO system, food waste would be accepted along with garden waste in the green-top bin.
This direction is in line with the State Government's Waste Strategy, released in February 2019, which highlights the three-bin FOGO model as the preferred waste management approach for the State.
In 2019 Council decided to develop a Position and Action Statement for Waste Management (FOGO), which is intended to:
Outline the framework for the introduction of a FOGO waste collection system;
Define the framework for community engagement to ensure the community is informed on the introduction of FOGO.
Facilitate the implementation of a FOGO waste system for the City of Bayswater in the second half of 2020.
We are now seeking the community's feedback on this draft document.
Complete the Feedback form located below, or request a hard copy by phoning 9272 0622.
Alternatively you can email your feedback to the City at mail@bayswater.wa.gov.au, attention: Director Works and Infrastructure.
Keep an eye out for further information on FOGO in the coming months.
What next?
In conjunction with seeking community feedback on the Position and Action Statement, the City will work with the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council on an education program to provide residents with consistent and clear guidelines around what can be placed in their FOGO bin, before the new system is introduced.
