Why is the City doing this project?

The area has previously been considered in a Local Area Traffic Management study conducted by the City in 2017, and Main Roads WA recently identified the area as being eligible for funding as a result of the crash statistics collected over recent years.

What is considered when developing these traffic management plans?

Whilst the City can gather data (traffic numbers and speeds, crash data, etc.) to help inform the development of the plan and has data available from the previous traffic study undertaken in the area a few years ago (provide link to), the input from residents is critical.

Additionally, an important consideration when developing these types of plans is what effect a treatment will have not only in the area it is located, but in surrounding streets. Whilst a treatment may provide positive benefits in the street it is placed in, it may result in negative benefits in nearby streets. Solving a problem in one street by moving it to another street is not always the answer and we need to consider the interests of the residents in the area collectively.

When will the traffic treatments be implemented?

The intent is to get treatments on the ground as soon as possible. The current stage of consultation will be followed by the development of a draft plan. This plan will be ready early in the new year and there will then be another round of consultation on the draft plan. Following this, the plan will be refined and presented to Council for approval. Once approved, installation can commence, which is expected near the end of the current financial year.

What if I don't want any treatments in my street?

Now is your opportunity to let us know. Keep in mind that we need to consider the input from all residents in the area, along with other considerations, when identifying necessary treatments.
