What is Cultural Arts?
Culture is our way of life. Cultural Arts refers to the philosophy and physical expression of creativity found in different cultures in our society. The three main elements of Cultural Arts include literature (including poetry, prose and drama), performing arts (among them music, dance, and theatre), and visual arts (including drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, sculpting, and architecture).
What is the purpose of the plan?
The Cultural Plan has been developed to provide a framework to guide the planning and provision of future arts and culture projects, services and facilities in the City. As part of this process, we have reviewed existing cultural resources, what works well and what could be better, opportunities for the City to collaborate with external groups and how to promote and facilitate participation and ongoing learning throughout the creative industries.
What have we done so far?
The City hosted two community workshops in March 2019 made up of a mix of 12-20 local art professionals and interested community members.
Thank you to those who attended the two workshops. A summary of the workshops is available in the document library.
Feedback on the Draft Cultural Plan has now closed - thank you to everyone who reviewed the document and provided their comments. Feedback will now be analysed and the final Cultural Plan presented to Council shortly. Please keep an eye on this page for further updates.
