Consultation has concluded

The Community Recreation Plan was approved by Council on 26 July 2022.

At the Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday 26 July 2022, Council formally approved the final draft Community Recreation Plan.  Thank you to everyone who participated in this process over the last two years.  This is a comprehensive plan intended to guide the future of sport and recreation facilities and infrastructure over the next 10 years, through a plan of Short, Medium and Long term actions that balance the sport and recreation needs of clubs and groups with community members.

Due to its length, the plan is presented in two parts.  Part 1 is the main document, containing an overview of sport and recreation facilities, key findings, community engagement outcomes and Action Plan.  Part 2 contains supporting information, research, benchmarking and detailed analysis.  Both documents can be found on the City's website here.

Community engagement

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the engagement. Your feedback helped us develop the plan and gave us an insight into how our parks and facilities are being used, and how they can be improved to better facilitate community sport and recreation. Engagement outcomes reports are available to view by clicking here.  You can also find them in the Documents section.

What process did we go through to finalise the plan and actions?

A progress update on the plan was considered by Council in August 2021. You can view this report on the City's website here (see pg 855). At this meeting, Council voted to consider a list of prioritised actions once completed, as well as the criteria used to prioritise them.

The City then met with a group of stakeholders who had attended a workshop during the engagement phase, to get feedback on preferred actions. A list of draft actions for the Short (1-5 yrs), Medium (5-10 yrs), and Long term (10 yrs +) was developed based on community and stakeholder feedback, research, and analysis. The actions were presented to Council in a report in October 2021, where Council noted the draft actions and resolved to consider them again once refined and prioritised in a future report in early 2022. Council minutes from that meeting are available here.

In March 2022, City officers held a workshop with Councillors to provide an update on progress, explain the actions and how they were prioritised into a draft action plan. A report was then submitted to the Ordinary Council Meeting on 22 March 2022, when Councillors approved a draft of the plan for community feedback. This report can be found in the meeting agenda on the City's website here.  The final draft document, Parts 1 and 2

How can I get involved?

The community feedback period has now closed. Thanks to everyone who completed a survey and provided comments on the plan.

The documents will remain available to read. These can all be found in the Documents section to the right of this page.  The full Community Recreation Plan (Parts 1 and 2) can be found on the City's website.

If you have any queries about the project, please call the City on 08 9272 0622 or email lucy.griffiths@bayswater.wa.gov.au.
