Consultation has concluded

Background

Rhodes Reserve is a Local Park located in Morley. The existing play equipment has reached the end of its useful life and will be replaced mid-2024.This redevelopment aims to create a more welcoming and inclusive play space that can lead to a stronger and more vibrant community.

How will the play space be redeveloped?

The approximate budget for this redevelopment is $50,000. This play space will have the potential to enhance play, connect with existing infrastructure and increase shade by adjusting the footprint of the play space. The Proposed Play Space Location Plan provides a visual representation of the play space size and layout.

The City is investigating the opportunity to undertake any additional works at this park in conjunction with the play space renewal. This may include, but is not limited to, converting underutilized areas of turf to mulched native planting to reduce watering and maintenance, community initiatives and general landscape upgrades where necessary and feasible.

The indicative concept plan is now available and ready to be viewed in the document library.

Outcomes

Based on the recent community feedback received, the redevelopment of the play space at Rhodes Reserve will include a mix of nature and traditional play equipment that will cater to a wider range of ages and abilities. The current play space will be relocated closer to the existing trees to provide shade with mulch used as the soft fall material to compliment the natural surrounds of the trees around the play space

The full outcome report for the community consultation can be viewed here.

Next steps

Following the indicative concept plan, the City will begin sourcing for play equipment for the reserve and make adjustment to the concept plan if required. Updates will be provided on this page as the project progresses.

It is anticipated works will commence in July 2024, with estimated completion in August 2024. Dates are subject to change. The play space will remain open until works commence. Once the space is closed for the upgrade, we encourage the community to visit nearby play spaces at Strutt Reserve, Deschamp Reserve, Crimea Skate Park, and Noranda Sporting Complex.
