Annual Tree Planting Program
Background
Trees provide many benefits, such as:
- greening our urban environment
- improving air quality
- supporting ecosystems through habitat and food for animals and insects
- reducing the impacts of climate change, and
- providing shade and cooling our suburbs.
As part of the City's commitment to increasing our tree canopy, we will plant more than 3,000 trees over the 2026 winter period.
This is in addition to the trees and shrubs planted in natural areas in association with the City's environmental groups, and the plants provided to residents through the City's Plants to Residents program in partnership with Environment House.
