Toowong Reserve Play Space Upgrade

Consultation has concluded

Background

Toowong Reserve is a Local Park located in Bayswater. The existing play equipment has reached the end of its useful life and will be replaced mid-2024. We understand how important the playground is to our community and this redevelopment aims to ensure it continues to be a vibrant hub for families and create an even more engaging play experience for everyone.

How will the play space be redeveloped?

The approximate budget for this redevelopment is $60,000. Depending on the equipment selected, this play space has the potential to enhance play, connect with the existing infrastructure, and have increased natural shade by adjusting the footprint of the play space. The Proposed Play Space Location Plan provides a visual representation of the play space size and layout.

The City is investigating the opportunity to undertake any additional works at this park in conjunction with the play space renewal. This may include, but is not limited to, converting underutilized areas of turf to mulched native planting to reduce watering and maintenance, community initiatives and general landscape upgrades where necessary and feasible.

The indicative concept plan is now available and ready to be viewed in the document library.

Community engagement outcomes

Based on the recent community feedback received, the redevelopment of the play space at Toowong Reserve will include a mix of nature and traditional play equipment that will cater to a wider range of ages and abilities. The current play space will be extended closer to existing trees to provide shade, with mulch as the most suitable soft fall material for the play space due to the relocation.

You can view the full community consultation outcomes report here.

The engagement period is now closed, we would like to thank all participants for providing feedback via the engage page and survey.

Toowong Reserve play space is now OPEN to the public.

Concrete footpath is to be completed in the upcoming weeks. Updates will be provided on this page as the project progresses.
