What are the City’s obligations under any acts / law ?
Under current records related legislation such as the State Records Act 2000 and the Freedom of Information Act 1992, and the accredited standard ISO 9001:2000, the City of Bayswater is obliged to maintain recordkeeping systems dedicated to the creation and control of Council’s records. The systems have to ensure that Council accurately and adequately record the performance of its functions, and are able to contribute towards informed decision making. The policy applies to all government records which are created or received by or on behalf of the City of Bayswater, regardless of their media, date of creation or storage location.
Background
There is a need for a stronger compliance program to review and ensure compliance with the State Records Act 2000 and the City of Bayswater Record Keeping Plan. Information Management (IM) has committed to conducting a proactive program of compliance audits through a City-wide Audit Program. The results of these audits will be documented to identify higher risk areas and facilitate the focus of audit resources on areas of greatest risk.
Purpose
The purpose of self-assessment is to measure how well individuals and cumulatively branches or teams are managing records, and to identify areas for improvement. Additionally, it will assist the Information Management team to identify common areas for improvement and to develop strategies to improve records management practices, including innovation across the City of Bayswater.
Why it is important to hear from all staff
We are seeking to understand how well staff understand their record-keeping responsibilities.
We aim to identify opportunities for continuous improvement in the management of the City's records and information.
Feedback will support the Information Management team in assisting teams in the conduct of good and compliant record keeping.
Where cumulative responses indicate that action is required the IM team can work with branch managers on a course of remedial action.
To ensure that we receive quality feedback it would be appreciated that as many staff as possible complete the survey.
How to get involved
The submission period has now closed. The information management team will now assess the responses and, report on the outcomes in the coming month.
