Arbor Park sedgeland planting

Arbor Park Revegetation Project

The City of Bayswater will be undertaking revegetation works at Arbor Park to improve biodiversity, park safety and long-term maintenance outcomes. The project aligns with the Arbor Park Masterplan and supports the City’s strategic direction under Our Natural Environment, including actions within the Bayswater Brook and Bayswater Biodiversity Strategy.

The project aims to:

  • Restore a 2,500m² boggy area of Arbor Park with native sedgeland vegetation

  • Improve habitat, water quality and local biodiversity

  • Replace weed-infested turf that is too wet and unsafe for mowing crews to access

  • Reduce ongoing maintenance requirements and mowing hazards

  • Enhance the overall appearance of the park

Works will be undertaken during the 2025/26 financial year and will include the following activities:

  • Herbicide treatment of existing weeds and turf

  • Site preparation works

  • Planting of 7,500 native sedges

  • Planting of 30 Melaleuca preissiana trees, located at least 10 metres away from Water Corporation assets

  • Ongoing monitoring and weed control as required
