Morley Sport and Recreation Centre Redevelopment

Consultation has concluded

The City is pleased to announce that construction of the Morley Sports and Recreation Centre Redevelopment has commenced.

The redevelopment of the Morley Sports and Recreation Centre is one of four major projects partly funded by the City's $5.09 million Local Economic and Social Stimulus package.

The $6.5 million redevelopment will include:

The redevelopment would not have been possible without the support of the Western Australian State Government. The Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries provided a $2 million grant through the Community Sport and Recreation Facility Fund, with the support and assistance from the Member for Morley, the Hon Amber-Jade Sanderson MLA.

The City appointed Savills WA in July 2020 to project manage the redevelopment on behalf of the City, including sub consultants preparing the detailed design of the building, tender preparation and awarding. The architectural design was prepared by Hodge Collard Architects, with input from the Design Review Panel, prior to approval of the development application by Council.

Following a competitive tender process, BYTE Constructions were awarded the contract for the redevelopment at the October 2020 Ordinary Council Meeting and commenced site-works from December 2020, with an estimated completion date of October 2021.

To date, construction has progressed well within the main structure including roofing, steel, walls and amenities completed. Outside the building, pitch realignment works have been completed with match field lighting installed. Commissioning of the lighting will take place in late August 2021.

The Pat O'Hara Master Plan is due for completion October 2022.

Project Background

Prior to construction in 2018, the City in conjunction with SGL Consulting Group, developed a Master Plan to inform long term facility and infrastructure developments within Morley Sports and Recreation Centre and Pat O'Hara Reserve.
