Update on Maylands Waterland
Work continues on the much loved Maylands Waterland with play and picnic areas ready for the community to enjoy from June. Unfortunately due to supply issues and construction delays, water play elements won’t be open until the following season.
Despite disruptions, the City continues to progress work on the site with the community kitchen, picnic and barbecue area almost completed and toilets and changerooms installed. Water play splash pads will be in place later this month and the water sanitation plant will also be installed in March. Works on the main pathway connecting areas throughout the water playground are underway.
During March/April, the mobile catering area will be laid, fencing around the perimeter will be installed and final play elements and lighting will be added on site.
Public open space, dry play and picnic areas are anticipated be open to the community by early June 2022. The entire facility, including water play, is expected to open for the summer season in October 2022.
Once complete, stage one of the redeveloped water playground will include a mix of family-friendly water play elements such as a water creek, wading pool and splash pad. Inspired by local native flora and fauna, it will also feature access for all abilities, plenty of shade and links to the river foreshore.
The new Maylands Waterland is now open to the public.
