Progress at Maylands Waterland redevelopment
The redevelopment of Maylands Waterland is progressing, however the unseasonably high rainfall over recent months and the impact on the global supply chain and labour availability due to COVID-19, have unfortunately delayed progress at the site.
Despite these setbacks, a great amount of work has been achieved and the redevelopment is progressing well. Site preparation and groundworks are finished; and the foundations for the splash pad and connecting pipework have been laid. The concrete formwork for accessibility ramps and staircases, and the external pathway around the southern section have been completed; as has native planting along the riverbank. Off-site construction of artwork, waterplay elements and other buildings is on schedule and will be ready for installation in the coming months.
We look forward to opening the main parkland and stage one of the redevelopment to the public in June 2022. This will include a family-friendly water creek, wading pool and splash pad, as well as access for all abilities, plenty of shade and links to the river foreshore.
Stage two of the redevelopment plans to incorporate a deep water pool, public toilet refurbishment and the replacement of the existing foreshore play space, subject to funding. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue work on this much-loved community asset.
The new Maylands Waterland is now open to the public.
