King William Street Tree Planting
BACKGROUND
In recognition of the need to green King William Street and the City's commitment to increasing its tree canopy coverage, the City aims to plant approximately 40 trees along King William Street in Bayswater. Commencing in July 2025, planting will take place from the recently completed Bayswater Train Station to the intersection of King William Street and Guildford Road.
CONCEPT DESIGN
Tree planting sites were selected based on several considerations and constraints. Due to limited verge space and a number of existing underground services, trees will be installed within the road pavement in specially designed pits. The trees will be positioned in a manner that preserves existing footpaths, parking bays and street furniture, and avoids driveways and utilities.
A concept design showing the intended location of trees has been developed and can be viewed here. A large-scale hard copy is also available to view at the Bayswater Library.
The proposed design takes into consideration service locations, as well as crossovers, driveways, power poles and parking bays. Much consideration has been given to parking requirements, in particular for bays close to businesses. For more information, see the FAQs in the the right-hand menu.
Extensive stakeholder engagement of the draft concept design has been undertaken with a number of local community groups, including businesses, historical and environmental groups. It has also been presented to Council and to the City’s Active Transport Advisory Committee.
OPPORTUNITY FOR COMMUNITY COMMENT AND QUESTIONS
Prior to finalising the design, the City is presenting the draft design to the community. Residents and users of the street who would like to provide any comments on the design can do so using the form below.
Responses will be collected until 5pm, Friday 20 June 2025. The City's Engineer will take comments received throughout the period into consideration and determine if any changes could improve the placement of the trees set out in the draft.
