Garratt Road, Stone Street and Frinton Street Intersection Signalisation
Background
The City has received numerous requests to consider the operation and safety of the Stone St and Garratt Rd intersection. It has conducted an observational survey at the intersection and recorded non-permitted movements, including vehicles turning right from Garratt Rd into Frinton St, and going across Garratt Rd between Stone and Frinton Streets.
Signalisation
The City engaged a traffic consultant to assess the intersection and determine the most feasible treatment to address high crash statistics and community concerns. Given land constraints the most feasible option is installation of traffic signals which will:
Permit all movements
Provide controlled pedestrian crossing on all approaches of the intersection
Local area considerations
A number of changes to the local area will be required to support traffic flow as part of the signalisation project. These include:
Conversion of Milne Street at Guildford Road to left in left out arrangement. This is a non-negotiable condition imposed by Main Roads upon their approval of signals installation.
Conversion of Williamson Street to left in left out and associated relocation of the 41 bus service from Williamson St to Frinton St, recommended by Main Roads to further improve safety and reduce conflict points within the road network
Consideration of traffic calming devices west of Garratt Road to ensure low speeds on local roads and reduce potential rat-running.
How to get involved
View the Plans: Detailed diagrams, the full concept design, and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) are available on this page, and at Maylands library.
Take the Survey: Complete the survey below
Prefer Paper? If you would like a hard copy of the survey, please email us at mail@bayswater.wa.gov.au or pick up one at Maylands library
*Please note that you need to be registered on Engage Bayswater to participate in this activity. You will be taken to the sign in page where you can enter your log in details or click on Register. This will ensure we understand who we are hearing from and that we have captured local resident voices.
Survey will close 5pm Sunday 12 April 2026
What's next
All feedback received will be reviewed and compiled into a report and will play a vital role in the final design process. The City is committed to keeping the community informed, and updates will be provided through the engagement portal as the project progresses.
Thank you for helping us shape a safer and more connected community.
