Consultation has concluded

Robert Thompson Park is located on the corner of Benara Road and McGilvray Avenue in Noranda. Classified as a Neighbourhood Park (according to the City's Parks and Play Space Classification Hierarchy , part of the City's Play Space Strategy, endorsed by Council in 2019), it is designed to provide play opportunities and choices for different age groups including a mix of equipment types.

The City is going to install exercise equipment and is seeking feedback about the type of equipment the community would like to use. To make an informed decision, we need to know the preferred type of exercise equipment, and preferred formation in which the equipment is to be presented.

The location in which the equipment is to be installed in the park will be determined by the City with consideration given to:

  • proximity to existing play and park infrastructure in the park
  • support of continuous access to and from the equipment,
  • sight lines into proposed location for safety and surveillance, and
  • how the park is used by the community.

The budget available for this project is $20,000.

Types of exercise equipment:

There are two general types:

Static equipment, which is stationary, and without moving parts. This type of equipment has recently been installed in Bohemia Park, Noranda, as shown below:

Dynamic equipment comprises moving parts, and provides a guided range of movement. This type of equipment has recently been installed in Arbor Park, Morley, as shown below:

It may be possible to install a combination of both static and dynamic elements at Robert Thompson Park, depending on available resources and community feedback.

Formation

The equipment can generally be installed in two ways, as shown below:

Cluster formation
Multiple pieces grouped together in one area
Bohemia Park, Noranda
Linear formation
Single pieces located along a pathway
Tranby Reserve, Maylands
