A Connected Morley: Project 1 Public Space Activation
Consultation has concluded
Background
As part of the 'A Connected Morley' project funded by RAC Reconnect WA, the City commenced working in partnership with three business owners - Bite my Banh Mi, Bobaboba and King Hot Pot to design and create a new shared public space.
This project aimed to transform an under-utilised area of carpark into a community public space and to act as a catalyst for further activation, business growth and sense of community within the Morley Activity Centre. The space functions as an informal alfresco area for the three respective businesses, but is also available for full community use without the need of purchasing food or beverages.
This area is located at 250 Walter Road West, Morley (intersection of Wellington and Old Collier Road).
Engagement
The City contracted NOMA* to facilitate co-design workshops with the above business owners. Three workshops have taken place, and a concept design has been finalised. The design inspiration and basic floor plan is in the documents section.
Interventions included festoon lighting, bespoke tables, seating planter boxes and umbrellas. A partnership with the property owner and businesses has been established for ongoing maintenance and programming. This site is the first significant privately owned space to be activated in Morley in partnership with the City.
Get involved and keep up to date
The project is now complete. We would like to ask you a few questions to understand how you use Morley Town Centre and to see the impact these design interventions have had on the local community. Please complete the survey by 5pm on Tuesday, 27 June 2023 to enter into a draw to win one of 3 x $50 vouchers to spend at Bite My Banh Mi, Bobaboba or King Hotpot.
