Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan 2023-2027

The City is seeking input from the community on the development of its Crime Prevention and Community Safety Plan. The Plan will include practical actions aimed at improving safety, service delivery and reducing crime within the community.

Background

In April 2022 the City held a forum called A Conversation about Crime at the Morley Noranda Recreation Club. The community was invited to share their concerns about crime and community safety. It was an opportunity for those who live, work and visit the City to share their experiences and talk with the City and WA Police about ways to address crime.

The forum was attended by community, Councillors, WA Police, Neighbourhood Watch and City officers. Feedback and ideas captured during this initial engagement were used as a base for this current phase of engagement and will also be used to inform the development of a City-wide Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan. An outcomes report from this forum is available in the document library.

The City will also host workshops with external stakeholders such as the WA Police and Neighbourhood Watch to gain input into the Plan and receive feedback on the draft.

Community Engagement

The City sought input from the wider community (including residents, business and community groups) through the survey below.

What's next

The consultant produced a draft plan which was presented to Council at its Ordinary Council Meeting on 22 August 2023. Council resolved to refer the draft Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan 2023 - 2027 to a future meeting to enable the City to:

1. Conduct and clarify further work in relation to the plan clearly articulating more tangible outcomes that are aligned to Local Government responsibilities.

2. Recommend and provide guidance to Council on the purpose and objectives of a City-wide CCTV policy position.
