Access and Inclusion Plan Review

Consultation has concluded

Background

The Access and Inclusion Plan (2021-2024) is due for review as legislated by the Disability Services Act 1993. To create the new Access and Inclusion Plan (2024-2029) the City is seeking input from community members and people who have an interest in access and inclusion.

Disability is part of our human diversity, and nearly everyone will temporarily or permanently experience disability during their lifetime. While the City of Bayswater’s Access and Inclusion Plan is focused on supporting people with disabilities and people from diverse backgrounds, improved access and inclusion in our community benefits all people.

Taking access a step further, inclusion recognises and values the diversity of all individuals and groups. It is the opportunity for all people to feel welcome, have choice and control in how or where they participate, share public spaces together, and feel a sense of belonging within the community.

To develop the framework and direction for the next five years we need to know what's important to our community. The City will focus on people with a disability, carers and friends/family of people with a disability, and people who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+, who are culturally and linguistically diverse, and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities. We will also be engaging with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Engagement

From 15 November 2024 until 16 December 2025, City of Bayswater staff will work with members of the City’s Inclusion and Diversity Advisory Group to undertake community engagement. We will collect feedback via an online survey, community workshops, school engagement workshops at Durham Road School, and at pop-up engagement activities at community events: PrideFEST Fairday, RISE-Up Art Market, International Day of People with Disability, and Carols by Candlelight.

What's Next

The information gathered during this process will provide a framework and direction for the next five years. An outcomes report will be posted as soon as it is available.
